What's new in Objective Build

March 2025

Request access to project

You can now request access to a consent or other application if you have either the consent number assigned by the issuing authority (or the BLD number for an application assigned by the Objective Build) and the name of the authority. The system sends your request to all registered participants on the project who have Manage level access to accept or decline. See: Requesting access to project

RFI document upload improvement

Applicants can now upload a document to an RFI question using a new document upload area on the Response to RFI page. If a document upload fails, the error is shown against the document in the upload area and the applicant can either remove the failed document or upload a correct file with the same name to overwrite the failed document.

Note: For applications with authorities using a version of GoGet before 5.17.1, the document upload container is limited to uploading a single file, as per existing behaviour. For councils on version 5.17.1 or later, applications will use the improved user interface.

Payments tabs may be hidden

When an authority has elected not to use Objective Build Processing payments, the Payments tabs are no longer displayed to applicants on an Application or in an Application's Documents area.

Increased Required Documents upload document limit

To better support complex and commercial applications, applicants can now upload up to 100 documents to each required document, increased from the previous limit of 50 documents.

Improved notification to new participants

When a user is added as a participant on an application, the system already sends a notification to the user. We have now improved the notification information to provide better context by including the property address, the type of the application and the details of the person who added the participant.

Document upload rejection notifications

The Build Applicants system now records the details of users who upload required documents to a project. If the building consent authority rejects an uploaded document, the system now also notifies the user who uploaded that document, in addition to the Agent for the project (if they are different users).

Remove pending and failed uploads

When an applicant uploads documents (to an application, a required document or an RFI response), the system shows the document upload progress and the applicant can now choose to remove documents that are marked as 'pending' - that is, they have not yet been received by the council processing system.

If the upload process fails, for example if the network connection is lost, the system shows an upload failure message against the document. The applicant can now either remove the document or upload a document with the same filename, in which case the system automatically overwrites the existing failed document.

Applicants can respond to RFIs when consent is CCC refused

We have corrected the RFI behaviour for consents in CCC Refused state to allow applicants to respond to RFIs.

Multiple use approval / certificate number

When applicants set the Application type option Are you using a multiple use approval standardised design to No (the default), the system does not prompt for a certificate number. In previous versions, if the user selected Yes and then No to this question, the system incorrectly continued to require a certificate number.

Updated link to Product Certificate register

The Application Type step includes the question Does the system include certified products, systems and construction methods and includes a link to the Product Certificate register. We have updated this link to point to https://tepae.building.govt.nz/public-registers/?type=CMark.

Improved notification frequency

We have reduced the number of notifications sent to you throughout the lifecycle of a project. Notifications are now sent for significant events (such as when the BCA accepts an application or decides to grant and issue or refuse a consent or when a consent lapses) and when issues arise, such as on request for further information, rejection of an uploaded document or request for payment. In previous versions, the system would notify you of every change in the status of a project resulting in clusters of several redundant notifications.

Reason for rejection or refusal in notification

When a Building Consent Officer (BCO) rejects an application or refuses to issue consent, the notification you receive now includes the reason for rejection or refusal when one is provided by the BCO.

Improved statuses for projects

We have improved the statuses used within the stages for projects in the Objective Build Applicants module to make the status information more helpful.

  • New Decision step in Lodgement, Assessment and Certificates stages: This new step shows the outcome of the BCA's decision to accept or reject an application or to grant or refuse a consent or certificate or an applicant's decision to withdraw an application. This replaces the Application Accepted, Consent Granted and Certificate Issued steps that could result in confusing status notification updates, such as "Application Accepted - Rejected".

  • New Issued step in Assessment and Certificates stages: The decision to grant a consent or certificate triggers the display of a new separate Issued step. Depending on council processes, the Issued step may show as paused when a payment is required before documents are issued.

  • New Lapsed step in Assessment stage: If an issued consent lapses, a new Lapsed step is displayed after the Issued step.

  • Removed the separate RFI step in Lodgement, Assessment and Certificates stages. RFIs are now shown as a paused state on the existing Vetting and Processing steps only as required.

Registered Owner details

On the People and roles step of application forms and on the Application overview page, we have changed the label “add the Registered Owner’s details” to “add the current owners of the property, as shown on the Record of Title” to emphasise the need for applications to include all legally registered owners.
